Sense and Sensibility?

Dear Ms. Anise, We received all the children’s books today. I am also thanking you for the book called Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen although I am not sure why you sent it to me. I don’t recall anyone requesting it but I expect it will be a fine addition to the library we are building. Sincerely, Captain Anthony Bates

Sending a favorite book.

Dear Captain Bates, No argument here, Heart of Darkness is a classic. Please note that your reference to the film Apocalypse Now doesn’t really negate the fact that the context and themes of Conrad’s book are quite dark and depressing. However to be fair — has been awhile — so will reread it.

In the mean time, sending another round of classic novels by various authors including the very popular Mr. Vonnegut. Getting a reputation from scouring for Vonnegut books in all the local used bookstores now.

And enclosing a lovely batch of different children’s books — was able to send a request around my office and my co-workers came through with a good selection. Also one of my aunts was going to take her grandchildren’s orphan books to the library but I reminded her of our library’s ongoing weeding/dumping of books, so she gave them to me instead to send along. Finally here are some poems about spring written by children, plus I’m sending you a favorite book of mine. Best regards, Ms. Anise

Request for children’s books.

Dear Ms. Anise, Thank you for everything you continue to send. It surprises me that you are reluctant with my expanding the mandatory reading list for my squad. Heart of Darkness is a classic novel, and I believe it was the inspiration for the iconic film Apocalypse Now.  If possible we could use some children’s books, so we can digitally record reading them, and communicate those recordings to our children back home.         Sincerely, Captain Anthony Bates
